My Husband’s Dream Is a Subaru WRX STI, But He Got Me a Crosstrek, But Unfortunately My Dream Car Was Totaled When A RAM 1500 Ran a Red Light

“My Ice Metallic Silver 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Limited I purchased with 6 miles on it just got totaled in an accident.” 

That happened to Catherine after her Crosstrek show car met a Dodge Ram pickup in a serious accident. Cather wrote to Subaru of America and told them the story. It’s a great story revealing Subaru vehicles’ top safety tech and how much Subaru owners love their all-wheel-drive cars.

Imagine getting your dream car, a new Subaru Crosstrek with only 6 miles on it. It’s your first new car, and you immediately start customizing it. You put a lot of time, energy, and money into making it unique, with features that set it apart from all the other Crosstreks on the road.

It’s so unique that you take the all-wheel-drive SUV to the local Subaru car show in Joliet, Illinois. Fans love your car, and your hard work pays off with the recognition you receive. 

Then, something horrible happens. Your beloved Crosstrek is totaled in an accident. Here is Catherine’s unfortunate story.

Catherine says,

“Growing up, I was definitely molded into becoming a car girl. My father passed down his general appreciation for cars, whether he was taking me to car shows, going to races, or just yelling about a cool car driving down the road.” 

“As an adult, I’ve had some experience owning and tinkering with a few different makes and models. I was never truly in love with any of my vehicles; they just got me where I needed to go.” 

“In 2021, and needing a reliable vehicle after my latest disappointment, I decided I was going new, and after a nudge from my husband, whose dream car is a Subaru WRX STI, I fell in love with the Subaru Crosstrek. I purchased my Ice Metallic Silver 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Limited with 6 miles on it in March 2022.”

“For the next nearly 3 years, I spent every extra minute I could working on her to make her an extension of who I am. It didn’t take long to discover what a tight-knit family Subaru ownership is! I’ve loved getting to know and learning things from my fellow subie owners.” 

Subaru Crosstrek Meets Dodge RAM

“Unfortunately, on January 12, 2025, someone ran a red light, leaving me no time, and we collided. My dream car, my award-winning show car, was totaled. As heartbroken as that is, I couldn’t believe that my passenger and I walked out of this wreck with minor bruises and slight whiplash, all thanks to the robust safety features of the Subaru Crosstrek.”

“Thank goodness for Subaru Safety standards, as we squared up with a Dodge Ram 1500 and amazingly walked away. If I hadn’t sold on Subaru before, this also did it for me. I’m now shopping for a replacement vehicle, and it won’t be anything other than a Subaru.”

How safe is the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek?

If you are looking for a new or used Crosstrek, here is why the SUV is a great pick.

The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek was rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and earned the Top Safety Pick award. Crosstrek has been a TSP winner for 13 consecutive years. The Crosstrek Hybrid earns the highest Top Safety Pick + award for its LED projector headlights.

The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Base trim level, Premium, and Sport trims earn the best crash prevention scores from the IIHS but get a poor rating for their Halogen reflector headlights. Thus, the Top Safety Pick award is lower but still excellent.

However, customers no longer have to buy the top-trim Crosstrek Limited to get the best headlights. That was the case for the 2023 models. The Crosstrek Base and Sport trims had inferior Halogen headlights that could leave you dark on the trail.

Subaru upgraded the next-gen 2024 Crosstrek subcompact SUV with the latest safety technology, advanced adaptive cruise control with lane-centering capability, and a significant headlight upgrade. 

The new Crosstrek has improved safety scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the headlights are a substantial reason why.
