GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A Korean street food restaurant in the Grand Rapids area is closing and rebranding.
A different restaurant concept is being planned to replace it.
The closure of the Korean street food restaurant comes less than two years after it opened at 5751 Byron Center Ave. SW in Wyoming.
Alongside college friends Lam To and ThienHa Phan, restauranteur and chef Phong Nguyen opened K-Pocha inside the Bayberry Market in June 2023.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, Nguyen stated that they’ve decided to close and change the concept to a casual Vietnamese restaurant called Phở House.
“We will find a smaller location or run K-Pocha in a food truck style instead,” the restaurant’s post said. “During this difficult time, with a high rise in rent and inflation of food, we won’t able to keep up with the bills for the K-Pocha concept.”
The eatery was known to offer treats like cheesy corn dogs, bibimbap, Korean fried chicken, meat skewers and fruit-topped bingsu shaved ice.
Nguyen, who recently closed his Vietnamese restaurant Monsoon in downtown Grand Rapids, said the K-Pocha staff will be offered new positions while the remodeling is done.
“We truly appreciate everyone who has been supporting us, from our wonderful staff and amazing guests who filled K-porch with so much excitement and fun in this space,” he added. “We will see you soon with a new look and delicious phở in this same location. Thank you a million.”
