The 21st Annual Marco Island Kiwanis Car Show held last Saturday at Veterans Community Park saw almost 250 cars and car enthusiasts galore! “It just gets better and better every year!” exclaimed one show attendee. All proceeds from the car show and other community events the Kiwanis hold throughout the year support the club’s charitable giving concentrating heavily on area children.
There were trucks, cars, buses, a motorcycle, and a couple all terrain type vehicles that were cleaned, polished, and shined spotlessly just in preparation for the show. Not only were entire groups of people looking over vehicle engines and the beautifully restored interiors, but they were discussing every automotive topic imaginable. If you ever wanted to purchase a classic car, there were several participant vehicles for sale this year too, and even automotive dealer Germain BMW had a booth on the field. There were classic hot rods for sale, mint condition VW buses and beetles, as well as foreign cars and newer cars, too.
Attendees were entertained by the work of DJ Sugar Cube, a performance by the MIA Rock Band under the leadership of faculty member Shane Totten along with a performance by Josh Ferris and the Nautical Wheeler Band, all made possible by the sponsorship of Arne and Jill Sandberg.
It takes a lot of community volunteers to pull off a successful event like this. It was a collective endeavor of the entire Kiwanis Club of Marco Island with the amazing MIA’s Key Club under the leadership of Lori Galiana and Kiwanian Marie Lynn McChesney. “Our Club is so very grateful to the community for the collective support and success of the 21st Annual Kiwanis Car Show. Thank you to all who attended” signed Jill Sandberg, Mike Murphy, and Barb Murphy.
Sponsors for the 21st Annual Kiwanis Car Show included MOCK-UPS 4 YOU – Jill and Arne Sandberg; Imperial Marine Construction, First Foundation Bank, Darcie Guerin and Peter English Raymond James Wealth Management, Germain Cars of Naples, R3MOTORCARS, DURA COAT, Island Automotive, Rose Marina, Marco Island Furniture and Design and Bob Weigel – Edward Jones Financial.
