‘Find your Grail’ at Lancaster County video game megastore

A Lancaster County business will transform from ‘indie shop’ to ‘mega store’ this spring and customers can get a sneak peek of the future location this weekend.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — What started as an idea between friends blossomed into a successful business.

Beginning as an indie store, Just Press Play became players’ choice for video games, consoles, movies, trading cards, vinyl records, toys and collectibles and is becoming a megastore.

The megastore is expected to open in East Lampeter Township this spring, although customers can get a sneak peek of the store at the ‘Find Your Grail at the JPP Warehouse’ event.

“In collecting, everyone has their personal grails like Indiana Jones. We want you to come and see if there’s something you want or need or had as a kid that you want again,” said Zac Gieg, President of Just Press Play.

Some of the items that’ll be featured include video game iconography from the store’s museum and Gieg’s personal collection.

Other collectible items, like toys, vinyl records and books can be purchased.

“People come in, they look at the museum stuff, they look around the store and are like, ‘oh my goodness I just love this.’ We’ve created collectors for sure,” Gieg said. “I’ve had people come up and tell me that and that makes me feel good when people come in for the first time and don’t even realize that this stuff is co collectible and is so desired, it actually makes them want it more.”

Prices will differ depending on the item, its rarity, age and condition.

“It comes from a little bit of everywhere. Rarity definitely has a big part in it but also how many people remember it has a big part in it; the original boxes if they are factory sealed; that’s the upper echelon of collecting video games is collecting things that are factory sealed,” Gieg said.

Many video game items are from Gieg’s childhood, including a TurboGrafx-16 which was a home video game console designed by Hudson Soft and sold by NEC Home Electronics in 1989.

“It was the first thing that I collected when I started collecting video games 25 years ago,” Gieg said.

Proceeds from the event will be used to fund the megastore.

When can customers expect the store to officially open in the beginning of May.

The event takes place at 2007 Lincoln Highway East in Lancaster and runs Friday through Sunday.
