Jermaine Bass allegedly shot his 8-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter in August 2022 after their mother tucked them into bed.
TAMPA, Fla. — Opening statements are slated for Monday in the trial for a Tampa father who allegedly shot his two children, killing one.
Jermaine Bass, 32, was arrested and charged in 2022 after he reportedly told Hillsborough deputies he shot his son by accident. Law enforcement responded to the incident on Aug. 29, 2022 just after 10:30 p.m. when the mother heard gunshots after she tucked her kids into bed.
Upon deputies arrival, they found Bass holding his 8-year-old son.
“It was an accident. I accidentally shot my son,” he told deputies.
Sheriff Chad Chronister said the boy was severely injured, and the 5-year-old girl died after being shot in the head three times.
Bass was arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree attempted premeditated murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse.
