Newcastle news: Howey on Dubravka contract

Former Newcastle defender Steve Howey believes the new contract for goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is “very good news” for the team.

He told BBC Radio Newcastle: “He’s certainly been more than capable of filling Nick Pope’s shoes.

“His performances since he took over from Pope have been excellent. Like all goalkeepers, sometimes if you make an error it leads to a goal, but he’s been very consistent.

“There was talk of him going over to Saudi Arabia, so the deal from Newcastle is probably a very good one that he’s happy with.”
