AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Kids Inc. Rockrose Sports Park is ready to begin construction after making changes to its construction team.
The changes include a local general contractor, architect, and engineer.
“We’re ready to get started, but we’re being patient and we know that there’s just other things that have to take place. But everybody involved now is completely local, and that makes it a little easier for us to talk to our engineers, to our general contractor, and to our architect,” said Kids Inc. President and CEO Jimmy Lackey.
Lackey says the outdoor complex will host over seven different sports.
This includes eight baseball and softball fields and 31 soccer fields.
Rockrose Sports Park will be a 90-acre complex with 60-acres of lighted turf just off of I-27 and Hollywood Road.
“We’ve been given 90-acres of land from Rockrose Development, but that land is just dirt and there is no infrastructure. There’s no utilities, there’s no roads. There’s none of those things in place, so it just takes a little while to get it all in play,” said Lackey.
Lackey says they are still $5 million short of meeting a $30 million goal.
