UK Food as Health Alliance to host inaugural symposium

Food as Health Alliance One Year Celebration: “Make Kentucky Even Better- Make Kentucky even Healthier” on Tuesday September 24th, 2024 at Lexington Brewing and Distilling.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment’s Food as Health Alliance (FAHA) is hosting its first Food as Health Symposium on March 11.

The one-day symposium offers insight from experts across multiple food-related fields, including agriculture, health care, nutrition and many more. Participants will explore solutions for food insecurity for those with diet-sensitive ailments, address distinctions between food and nutrition security and identify gaps in research that, if filled, could have a large community impact.

“Food and nutrition security, along with high rates of heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers, continue to impact residents of Kentucky,” said Alison Gustafson, professor in the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition and FAHA program director. “Addressing the complex needs of healthy food while targeting chronic disease requires innovative solutions that connect food and healthcare. The Food as Health Alliance is bringing together leading experts from across the country for this symposium on Food is Medicine.”

The Food as Health Symposium will be hosted at the Longship Club at Kroger Field. It is free and open to the public with a provided lunch. For more information or to register for the event, visit here.
