Johns Hopkins Falls to Swarthmore, 81-72 – Johns Hopkins University Athletics

BALTIMORE, MD – Visiting Swarthmore rallied in the second half to beat Johns Hopkins, 81-72, on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays slip to 15-9 overall and 9-3 in the conference, while the Garnet improve to 16-8 and 8-4 in the conference.
 
Trailing 37-27 with four seconds to play in the first half, Brady Kageyama made a pair of free throws to kick-start at 27-3 Swarthmore that ate up more than 11 minutes. Zander Jimenez (nine points) and Eddie Paquette (seven points) did the bulk of the damage for the Garnet, who went 9-of-15 from the field during the run. Paquette capped the run with a layup at 8:45 that put Swarthmore up 54-40.
 
Hopkins answered the run with a John Windley three pointer and a Tanti Felli layup to cut the deficit to single digits at the 7:52-mark. The Garnet pushed their lead back to 11 with a 4-2 spurt but buckets from Jeb Williams and Brian Johansson made it just a seven-point game with 5:24 to play. The Blue Jays could no closer for the remainder of the game however and the Garnet went home with the win.
 
JHU grabbed an early 13-4 lead with an early run, capped by triples from Williams and Wyatt Eglinton Manner. Swarthmore scored six unanswered to pull back within three, but a Eglinton Manner layup sparked an 11-5 run that saw Hopkins push out to a 24-15 lead with 6:14 to go in the half. The teams traded buckets over the ensuing five and a half minutes and the Blue Jays led 37-27 before those late Kageyama free throws.
 
Charlie Jackson led the Blue Jays with 17 points and nine rebounds, to go with two assists and two steals. Johansson added 14 points and five boards, while Williams chipped in 12 points. Jiminez paced the Garnet with a game-high 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Paquette and Matt Mulvey finished with 12 points apiece, while Paquette also had eight boards.  
 
Hopkins wraps up the regular season on Saturday, February 22 as the Blue Jays host the Dickinson Red Devils. Tip-off at Goldfarb Gym is slated for 6:00 pm. JHU will honor its seniors and graduate students prior to the game.
