Have you enjoyed the new Champions League format?

The new league table and play-off phase will be complete after Wednesday’s action, and we’ll be back to a ‘normal’ last-16 knockout in Europe’s top club competition.

However, unlike previous years, a significant part of the draw has already been made.

What’s left to decide in Friday’s draw is who the seeded teams – who finished first to eighth in the league phase – will face and which half of the draw they go into.

You can watch the Champions League last-16 draw on the BBC Sport website and app on Friday, 21 February from 11:00 GMT, and follow our live text coverage.

We’ll also have updates from the Europa League (12:00) and Europa Conference League (13:00) draws, which follow.

The Champions League format expanded this year with a increase in games from 125 to 189. The final is in Munich on Saturday, 31 May.

Seeded teams, away goals, clubs from same country

  • Teams are seeded in couples – so for example Liverpool (1) and Barcelona (2) will be on separate sides of the draw and cannot meet until the final

  • Teams from the same country can meet each other at any point

  • There is no away goals rule, which Uefa got rid of at the start of the 2021-22 season saying it was “no longer appropriate” for them “to carry more weight”.

Who could Liverpool face?

Given Paris St-Germain’s commanding first-leg lead over Brest, Liverpool look set to face either PSG or Benfica – depending on Friday’s draw.

Who could Arsenal face?

Arsenal will face either Feyenoord, who knocked out AC Milan, or the winners of the Juventus v PSV tie.

Who could Aston Villa face?

Aston Villa will play either Club Brugge or the winners of the Borussia Dortmund v Sporting tie, where the German side hold a commanding 3-0 first-leg lead.

Who could Man City face?

Manchester City’s potential opponents – should they get past Real Madrid in the play-off – will be either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen, two of the seeded teams.

Watch highlights of every Champions League game from 22:00 on Wednesday on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app.

There will also be a Champions League Match of the Day on BBC One on Wednesday, from 22:40 to 00:00.
