Palworld surpasses 32 million players

Japanese developer Pocketpair stated that Palworld has attracted more than 32 million players in total across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S since its Early Access release 13 months ago. Note that this number does not equal sales of the game, as Palworld has been available via Xbox Game Pass from the very start — a major win for Microsoft’s subscription service early last year.

Palworld is a classic survival-crafting game at its core, challenging players to construct a base, explore their surroundings, and gather ever more advanced resources to access higher tiers of tech and equipment. What led to its meteoric rise to fame is its creature collection twist: Similar to the Pokémon games, Palworld features an extensive catalog of adorable creatures players can catch and tame.

However, Pocketpair allows players to do a bit more with their Pals than simply use them in fights — they can be put to work in your base to automatically farm materials or produce goods and players can equip them with special gear, such as assault rifles.

Combining a trending genre with the all-time classic elements from Pokémon proved to be a hit and Palworld became a worldwide phenomenon overnight.

Nintendo has brought a lawsuit against Pocketpair for alleged patent infringement related to the Palworld’s mechanics, which the developer intends to fight at court.

Earlier this year, Pocketpair released the Palworld Year 2 roadmap with detailed plans for the updates and additional features players can expect in 2025. This also includes collaborations with other games, such as indie powerhouse Terraria.
