FORT WHITE, Fla. (WCJB) – An ongoing fight involving a food truck park in Fort White may be coming to an end after appeals over the plans were denied during a town meeting.
At the Fort White town hall meeting, an appeal was heard about permits awarded to a food truck park that has generated much controversy in town.
The appeal filed by neighbor Brad Dicks states the owners of the collective did not follow proper land development codes.
“Well let’s just take one thing where it says all structures or principal uses have to be tied to the septic or sewer. What do you do with that? They should be hooked in,” said Dicks.
Dicks says he isn’t against the idea of a food truck park, it was just done wrong.
“Every other business that comes in here, Dollar General and all, you look at their submissions and they’re following the book,” said Dicks. “That’s why it hasn’t really been an issue because most people follow the rules. They submit what they’re supposed to submit and in this case, all we have is a single-page site plan.”
On the other hand, the owner says they have received a substantial amount of permits and have filed what they need to.
“That was a vacant property, there was nothing there, we submitted all our information and all our paperwork and we got approved,” said Alexander Veiga, the co-owner of The Collective.
Some town employees and one council member resigned over the controversy and Veiga says he isn’t surprised.
“I believe that everybody is tired of hearing about the issues with collective, I am tired of hearing about it, I want to move on and just let it be,” said Veiga.
After a unanimous vote, the site plan and special use permit appeals were both denied.
Veiga says he looks forward to moving on from all the controversy and Dicks said his piece. Dicks said he never had an issue with the park or the owners and hopes they do well, he just wanted the right protocols to be followed.
Also during the meeting, town council members appointed Dennis Rivera to serve as the district two councilman.
