
Columbia Police are investigating gunfire near a Fairfield Road shopping center, finding shell casings and property damage but no reported injuries.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police officers are investigating an exchange of gunfire near a shopping center on Fairfield Road on Saturday.
A department spokesperson said officers responded to reports of gunfire around 3:30 p.m. in the 5100 block of Fairfield Road, near a shopping center. Responding officers found shell casings at the scene and believe the shooting occurred between two groups or possibly individuals.
Despite the gunfire, police have not found any evidence of people wounded by bullets, although they reported property damage. The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine a motive for the shooting, which they do not believe was random.
