I’m Making Healthier Choices, Starting by Replacing My Questionable Food Storage Containers

My weekday lunches heavily depend on my weeknight dinners. I sometimes pick up prepared spring rolls at Whole Foods or spicy tempeh from my local farmers market, but by and large, most of my midday meals are leftovers from the night before. I used to use plastic deli containers to store my food, but I’ve recently been on a mission to swap them out with non-toxic food storage containers that work better and last longer. It’s a win for both my health and my wallet in the long term since I don’t have to replace them as often.

Read on to shop some of my favorite non-toxic food storage solutions from top brands like Pyrex, OXO, Caraway, and more. Some sets are even on sale for just $6 apiece for a limited time.

Caraway Glass Food Storage Set, Set of 7

Amazon

For years, Caraway has reigned supreme as one of the best ceramic cookware designers, with pieces that look beautiful and cook evenly. I was already a fan of the brand’s nonstick saucepan, but am now an even larger proponent of its glass food storage set. The containers are available in an array of useful sizes, free from toxins, and safe to use in the microwave, oven, freezer, and dishwasher. I also love how easy they are to store since they come with their very own storage organizer. Yes, the set is expensive, but they’ll last for years in your kitchen.

Rubbermaid Brilliance Food Storage Set

Amazon

When a product has nearly 95,000 perfect ratings and more than 8,000 positive reviews on Amazon, I pay attention. Rubbermaid’s Brilliance Food Storage Set has all of this and more since its containers also come equipped with leakproof lids, microwave-safe vents, and a BPA-free design. One happy shopper promises that the set will be a “game changer” in your kitchen, holding up “without any signs of wear” despite “regular use in the microwave and dishwasher.” Grab them while they’re $10 off.

Pyrex Tinted Glass Food Storage Set

Amazon

I’m always eager to add splashes of color to my kitchen, and these Pyrex containers are a great way to do exactly this without sacrificing quality. The set includes six bowls, ranging from 2 cups to 7 cups, with matching lids. If you’re worried about storing so many containers, keep in mind that they nest inside each other to save space. At just over $6 apiece, I can’t wait to add this set to my collection.

OXO Good Grips 3-Quart Glass Baking Dish

Amazon

I’ve written about OXO’s glass baking dish before, but I’m doing it again now because it’s one of the best kitchen tools I own. Whether I’m whipping up an egg strata to take to a friend’s house or storing leftover baked ziti at home, the lid elevates this OXO piece from a simple baking dish to a storage container capable of holding up to 3 quarts of food. Cooking, serving, and storing has never been easier.

Souper Cubes 1-Cup Silicone Freezer Molds

Amazon

I’ve had my eye on Souper Cubes’ freezer molds for a long time. I love the idea of freezing soup, broth, curry, sauce, and more in small quantities since it’s much easier (and less wasteful) to reheat a single cup as opposed to a full quart. The fun part about Souper Cubes is that the molds are also oven-safe up to 415°F, so you can build individually sized lasagnas, freeze them, and bake them all in the same container.

Glasslock Assorted Oven Safe Container Set, Set of 9

Amazon

Earning the top spot in Food & Wine’s product lab, Glasslock’s set of nine storage containers is known to be reliable, leakproof, and easy to clean. Testers were impressed with their “overall construction and performance,” noting that the glass didn’t stain or smell. They went on to add that one editor has owned their Glasslock set for more than six years and can confirm that “it’s worth the investment.”

Stasher Platinum Silicone Food-Grade Reusable Storage Bags

Amazon

I’m somewhat new to the Stasher game, but I’m more than happy with my set so far. The bags take up very little space in my kitchen drawers when empty and in my fridge when full. They’re also dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning, capable of keeping chopped butternut squash slime-free for over a week (as my own tests revealed), and on sale for a limited time.
