New year, new video games. There are dozens of huge games we can’t wait to get out hands on in 2025, including plenty of indies we’ll want to sink our teeth into. Great games are releasing one after the other, so let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.
Afterlove EP (2/14)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S
Afterlove EP blends visual novel, choice-based narrative adventure, and rhythm-based gameplay to tell a story of love, loss, and the significance of music. You’ll put on the headphones of Rama, who’s grieving the death of girlfriend and therefore neglecting his self-care and his music. Through your choices, you’ll develop relationships with the supporting cast and jam with Rama’s band. Afterlove EP was created by Mohammad Fahmi, creator of What Comes After and Coffee Talk, who passed away in 2022. The team at Pikselnesia completed the game in his honor.
Alien: Rogue Incursion (2/13)
Platform: Meta Quest
With a killer recent movie, a new board game, and an upcoming TV series, the Alien franchise is having quite the moment, and Alien: Rogue Incursion looks to continue it. You’ll strap on your VR headset and be transported to a facility overrun with xenomorphs. Utilize stealth to slip past them or firearms like a plasma rifle to kill them before they can kill you. For the few who game on the Meta Quest, Alien: Rogue Incursion drops this week after first releasing for PS VR2 and PC in December.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII (2/11)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
The renowned 4X strategy series largely from XCOM developer Firaxis returns with Civilization VII. Like previous entries, you’ll build a grand empire from the earliest dawn of civilization to an advanced mecca of industry. You’ll be able to task leaders, like Benjamin Franklin and Napoleon, to lead your society independently from when and where they’re from. Like so many games nowadays, Civ VII offered early access for its pricier editions. Because of this, it’s sitting with a “mixed” rating on Steam with over 11K reviews before it’s fully out.
Also worth checking out: Rugby 25, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, Urban Myth Dissolution Center, and Legacy: Steel and Sorcery.
