FDA food label proposal could help Americans’ health, UVA dietician says

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A Food and Drug Administration package label proposal could lead Americans’ health in the right direction, according to one UVA expert.

The front-of-package labels could help consumers identify how ingredients in foods can be a part of a healthy diet.

According to the proposal, it would simplify nutritional information.

“I think it’s overall a good thing,” UVA Clinical Dietitian Katherine Basbaum said. “I think that there’s going to be a learning curve. hopefully, once this does roll out, there’s going to be some, you know, very kind of simple and targeted promotion of it and how to use it.”
