FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Humane Fort Wayne has a positive update to share related to the recent vandalism to its Pet Food Pantry van.
On Friday, the organization shared that its ‘fleet of vehicles will soon be back in business’ thanks to support from over 150 individuals, matching donors, and area businesses.
The organization says it will need time to organize its plans and complete modifications for the vehicles, but the support will help the process move faster.
The update follows an ask for donations after the recent vandalism of its current Pet Food Pantry van last Sunday.
The organization said Sunday that the van was left unusable when a man in a white cargo-type van approached and was caught on camera at its South Hanna Street location removing decals, siphoning gas, and puncturing/draining the gas tank.
“Unfortunately, our Pantry vehicle was already in bad shape before we were targeted,” said Humane Fort Wayne Executive Director Jessica Henry-Johnson. “We’ve done our best to keep it running, but at this point, the cost of repairing the vehicle would far exceed its value.”
The organization asks that the public not donate pet food to an individual driving a vehicle with Humane Fort Wayne decals following the theft.
Instead, donations should be dropped off at Humane Fort Wayne’s Maycrest Drive or Leesburg Road locations.
The organization’s Pet Food Pantry service helps deliver over 250,000 pounds of pet food each year to individuals in need.
