In addition to the big game, the Super Bowl boasts food-laden parties across the nation. However, multiple foods that might be used during the parties this weekend have been recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Why It Matters
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently issued recalls for several products that might be staples in some Super Bowl parties. The products could be in people’s pantries or refrigerators even if they’ve been removed from store shelves.
What to Know
As people prepare their menus for upcoming Super Bowl parties, it might be a good idea to check their products and make sure they haven’t been recalled. Some recently recalled items that might be used in Super Bowl recipes or menu items are listed below.

Tahini Recall
Tahini is a paste of sesame seeds and is often used in dips such as hummus and baba ghanoush. Turkana, a New Jersey-based company, is recalling 858 cases of its Aleppo Tahini Paste over possible salmonella contamination.
The recall of the 16-ounce plastic jar of sesame paste, Lot#120824-01, with an expiration date of August 2026, applies to the following states: Florida, Kentucky, New York, New Jersey, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, Alabama, Missouri and California.
Newsweek reached out to Turkana by email for comment.
Taquito Recall
Casa Mamita Chicken & Cheese Taquitos were recalled in January after a consumer reported finding metal inside. The product was distributed to Aldi stores nationwide.
The recall affects the 20-ounce carton packages containing “CASA MAMITA CHICKEN & CHEESE TAQUITOS,” with best-by dates 07/03/25 and 09/25/25 on the bottom panel. The product bears establishment number “EST. P-40327” on the carton package.
Empanada Recall
Fried foods are often a staple at Super Bowl parties. However, a January 9 notice informed Walmart customers of a public health alert issued for a chicken empanada product sold at some Walmart stores.
The product was labeled as Chicken Curry Empanadas, but it could actually contain Apple Cinnamon Empanadas, which contain milk, which was not declared on the packaging.
Newsweek reached out to Walmart through an online contact form for comment.
Nut Recall
Nuts are an easy snack to set out for Super Bowl parties, but the FDA is warning that pecans from Pecan Star and Nut Corp might also contain walnuts.
Due to undeclared walnuts, 7,920 bags of “Greenwise Organic Pecan Halves” in 8-ounce, plastic printed packages marked with lot number 0000018228 and with a best-by date of April 23, 2025, were recalled by the company.
The release indicated the product in question was distributed to eight states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Newsweek reached out to Pecan Star and Nut Corp through an online contact form for comment.
Potato Chips
In December, Frito-Lay announced a recall of certain bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips after learning that the product possibly contains undeclared milk. The goods were sold in two states, Oregon and Washington.
In late January, the FDA issued the highest-risk category for the recall.
A Frito-Lay representative previously told Newsweek: “Frito-Lay issued a recall for a limited number of 13 oz. bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips that may contain undeclared milk. The product included in this recall was distributed in Oregon and Washington. No other Lay’s products, flavors, sizes or variety packs are recalled.”
What People Are Saying
The FDA said in a website about recalled items: “It is important that consumers be aware of recalls because recalled foods may cause injury or illness, especially for people who are pregnant or have weakened immune systems because of chronic illness or medical treatment.”
