This suburban N.J. home for sale has a giant indoor play gym for kids

Leave behind the germs, the drive and the chaos of kids’ play centers with this home for sale that has a massive indoor play area.

There’s a rock climbing wall, a swing, a slide, monkey bars. Oh, and the house isn’t too shabby either.

The Hampton’s style colonial, on a cul-de-sac in swanky Saddle River, has six bedrooms, six full- and one half-bathroom and it’s listed for $3.7 million.

The median sales price of a home in Saddle River was $2.42 million as of December, according to the most recent data available from New Jersey Realtors.

The home was built by a builder for his daughter, who never moved in. Instead, the current owners were the first people to live there when they bought it in 2022.

You enter the home through a foyer that has “sunlight floating in from all the big windows,” said Ana Simon of Brown Harris Stevens New Jersey, the listing agent.

The first floor has a formal living room, dining room, and an open concept chef’s kitchen, breakfast nook and family room. An office with an attached full bathroom can be used as a first-floor bedroom for guests or in-laws.

There are gas fireplaces in the formal living room and the great room and a wet bar between the breakfast nook and family room.

“It’s just a relaxing space that’s also made for entertaining,” she said.

On the second level are the primary bedroom with a spa-like bathroom and his and hers walk-in closets and four additional bedrooms, two of which have ensuite bathrooms. Two more bedrooms share a bathroom.

The full, finished basement has a wine cellar and adjacent room that can be used as a tasting room, a movie theater, a bathroom, a bedroom, two other rooms and the 56-foot by 26-foot kids’ play area.

“It’s almost like a little preschool down there,” Simon said. “It makes for amazing playdates.”

The sellers, she said, are willing to take down the kids’ play equipment or leave it for the next owner.

The home has been on the market since Nov. 9 and has had two, below asking price offers. One of those offers came in last week.

“There is renewed interest now that the spring market is approaching,” she said.

Most of the people who have toured the home are locals. Simon said she thinks the buyer will likely be someone with young kids, maybe who wants to home school them, or with aging parents who could live in the first floor bedroom suite.

“I’ve also had people looking at it who are downsizing,” she said. “But really I think the buyer will be someone who is looking for privacy and low taxes in a quiet but affluent town.”
