Care kits created in Dauphin County for kids with chronic illnesses

The kits include a hand-made card and craft, a toy, a journal and other fun activities.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Community members spent part of the day in Dauphin County helping put together thousands of care kits for kids facing chronic illnesses.

AAA Central Penn employees and members gathered on Thursday, Feb. 6 to put the kits together. The kits include a hand-made card and craft, a toy, a journal and other fun activities.

The kits will then go to the nonprofit Caitlin Smiles, which will then deliver the kits to children being treated at local hospitals.

“The kids who will receive these know that somebody loves them and is thinking of them,” said Caitlin Smiles Founder Cheryl Hornung. “It really warms my heart to hear that our kits help them.”

The AAA Central Penn branch is just one of four putting the kits together.

The goal is to create 5,000 in total.
