‘Souper Bowl’: Students at NKC elementary challenge kids in Philly, and everyone wins

NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Super Bowl 59 is right around the corner, which means competition is heating up for players on the field, but also kids in Philadelphia and Kansas City.

Students at Nashua Elementary have challenged Greene Street Friends School for the second time in three years, trying to see who can collect the most canned goods.

Every donation at Nashua Elementary will go to the Foster Adopt Connect Food Pantry in Independence, Missouri. As of Thursday, students had collected nearly 1,000 food items.

“Some people don’t have enough money to buy food, so that’s why we are giving food to the people in need with our money so they don’t have to buy it,” 2nd grade student, Lincoln Telfer said.

Students are given the opportunity to donate their canned goods on the Chiefs side or Eagles side of the table. Most students placed their food on the Chiefs end. Lincoln was one of the few who decided to support the Eagles.

Emily Wells is a 5th grader at Nashua Elementary and was part of the overwhelming support for the Chiefs. As a 5th-grade student, her parents let her stay up for the big game but said she’s just as excited to help others.

“It makes me feel happy inside that the food I donated is helping people that need it more than me,” Wells said.

The first matchup between the Chiefs and Eagles went Kansas City’s way both on the field and off for the kids’ Souper Bowl challenge.
