Delta County classic car show passing the keys to new manager

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) – This is the last year for the annual Krusin’ Klassics Fun Run Car Show in Escanaba.

But don’t worry, organizers of the event said the motors will keep on revving — just under a different name.

After its 40th annual fun run this May, Krusin’ Klassics car club will hand the keys to Escanaba’s Downtown Development Authority.

“As a group, we’re all getting a little older as much as we hate to admit it and our lives are changing,” club president Mark Caswell said. “Although it probably doesn’t seem like it, this is an exhaustive event physically and mentally.”

The annual show started in 1985 when a group of car enthusiasts got together to make it happen. In the early years, the show had around 50 cars on parade and display. Now, the popular event has grown to host up to 600 cars every year with thousands of people in attendance.

At a press conference today, the DDA announced the two-day event will be renamed The Ludington Street Cruise in 2026. The Friday parade will stay on Ludington Street, but Saturday’s show will move from the fairgrounds to downtown to also run up the main drag.

“Taking up as many blocks, if we have 800 cars, awesome,” DDA Director Craig Woerpel said. “From Ludington Park to Lincoln Road, wouldn’t that be incredible to see.”

But Caswell said, this year, people will see the same successful format the car club has used for almost four decades. Except the celebration will have a much bigger kids’ event, including jump houses.
