DETROIT – The numbers are in. 275,000 people attended the Detroit Auto Show over its 11-day return to January.
How does that compare to the last time the event was held in January back in 2019? Around 770,000 people attended that show.
According to Auto Show officials, the event had a $370 million impact on the area.
“Bringing the Detroit Auto Show back to January felt like coming home; there was a sense of familiarity and community, of being right where we belong,” said Detroit Auto Show Executive Director Sam Klemet. “There was a true energy fueled by the attendees’ excitement of seeing and interacting with over 30 vehicle brands, new activations and fun experiences, which created a momentum that will carry through to the 2026 show.”
7,000 people dressed to the nines and attended the Charity Preview, which raised $1.7 million for six Southeastern Michigan children’s charities.
Since 1976, the Charity Preview has raised more than $125 million.
34 auto brands were at the event with around 500 vehicles on display.
“It was great to usher in the return of the January show with such a robust lineup of vehicles and experiences for families to see and enjoy,” said 2025 Detroit Auto Show Chairman Karl Zimmermann. “The show gave consumers the opportunity to ‘shop’ their next new vehicle from a sea of brands and hundreds of cars and trucks all under one roof. In addition, the four tracks provided over 100,000 rides to prospective buyers.”
Dignitary visits included Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and U.S. and Michigan Congressional delegations.
There were nearly 2,000 members of the news media in attendance from 33 states and 15 countries.
After taking place after the holidays for many years, the Auto Show was moved to the summer months in order to attract more visitors and utilize the outdoors.
The first summer show was scheduled for June 2020, but was cancelled along with the 2021 show because of COVID.
A scaled-down show returned in September 2022 and also took place during the summer of 2023 before being skipped in 2024 as it returned last month. The event is scheduled to return in January 2026.
