Tuscaloosa Restaurant Damaged When Thieves Break In Through Ceiling

A new Tuscaloosa suffered expensive building damage when thieves broke in through the ceiling to empty the cash register and make off with their earnings.

In a Saturday afternoon post on social media, the owners of Jake’s Soul Food Cafe on McFarland Boulevard said that late Friday night, burglars broke in through the ceiling and stole all the money in the till.

Frustratingly, the damage caused by the culprits seemingly falling through the ceiling will reportedly cost more to repair than the amount of cash they managed to steal.

This affront comes less than six months after Jake’s – which has been beloved in Hoover for a decade – opened their second-ever location and chose Tuscaloosa to do so.

Even so, the restaurant’s CEO, Christina Renteria, posted an update, saying that after letting her initial outrage cool down, she’s more committed than ever to making their restaurant work in the Druid City.

“Now that the emotions have calmed – know that NOTHING is stopping God’s plan! Tuscaloosa criminal, you think it’s going to stop our mission for the community? It WILL NOT.  You think it’s going to hold us back. It WILL NOT,” Renteria wrote. “You caused damage, but I serve a God that restores and gives back double. We are working on being back open ASAP!! This is why it’s important to have a team of dependable people.”

Anyone with any information about this burglary at one of the newest members of the Tuscaloosa business community is urged to contact ownership and Jake’s or local law enforcement.

Renteria also noted this incident makes local support even more critical when the restaurant is able to reopen, so if you love soul food and Carribean cuisine or want to find out how those flavors collide, consider patronizing Jake’s when they reopen, which could be as soon as Sunday or Monday.
