BIXBY — The Bixby Fire Department put kids in the community to the test today with their annual firefighter challenge.
It’s designed like a miniature version of the real firefighter combat challenge course. Kids sprayed hoses, ran through obstacles and despite some rain earlier, they had a blast.
Bixby’s Assistant Fire Marshal Ryan King created the challenge. He explains why this event is important to the community.
“Outreach to the community and the kids is real important,” says King. “You know, get them interacting with the firefighters which gets them involved and we can hand out the stuff as far as fire safety stuff that we give to them. Just get them interacting with public safety officials.”
King also told us the course is manned by new firefighters who will start their official first day Monday.
