- The Henry Morrison Flagler Museum in Palm Beach is launching a Kids Summer Program, with activities from July 1 through Aug. 30.
- The program includes activities inspired by Henry Flagler’s adventures and designed for ages 3-12.
The Henry Morrison Flagler Museum kicks off its first Kids Summer Program on July 1 with activities inspired by the Gilded Age industrialist for whom the museum is named.
The program for kids ages 3-12 will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday through Aug. 30 in the museum’s Flagler Kenan Pavilion at the institution at 1 Whitehall Way, Palm Beach, the museum announced in a news release.
The Flagler Museum is excited to launch its first summer programming for children and spark curiosity and imagination, said Jenna Hoogstra, the museum’s new director of education. “By combining classic tales, engineering challenges and hands-on activities, we’re inviting kids to explore Henry Flagler’s adventurous legacy in a truly memorable way,” she said in the release.
This summer’s programming is train-themed and will encourage exploration of the Gilded Age, during which Flagler built Whitehall, the mansion that is now the Flagler Museum, the organization said.
Children will be able to play with a wooden train set, take part in a bridge-building workshop and participate in a scavenger hunt throughout the museum’s grounds. Story time with train-themed books will be every half-hour, the museum said.
There will be a model train display, a train car matching game and a coloring station, according to the news release.
A railroad map challenge will use stickers to help children learn the history and landmarks of Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway, the museum said.
The Kids Summer Program is included with museum admission, with half-price admission for children through Aug. 30. Admission will be $7 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and younger. Admission is $28 for ages 13 and older, and free for museum members.
The Flagler Museum has a family membership that is $300 per year and includes admission for two adults and children.
Activities are self-guided and Flagler Museum staff and volunteers will be on-site, the museum said.
