Opelousas hosts Cajun, Creole music camp for kids

OPELOUSAS, La. (NEWS 15) — The Louisiana Folk Roots Kids Camp, which is all about deep cultural immersion, is underway in Opelousas. 

Kids at the camp are getting a fantastic introduction to Cajun and Creole music with individual lessons, band labs, and other fun stuff.

LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — Louisiana Folk Roots’ summer camp at Vermilionville in Lafayette is seeing a huge surge in popularity, with kids diving headfirst into the lively world of Louisiana French music. “Louisiana Folk Roots is a nonprofit that offers tons of resources and camps so folks can learn about Louisiana French music and culture,” explained Luke Huval from Louisiana Folk Roots, summing up what the camp is all about. This summer, a record 35 campers are picking up instruments like the accordion, fiddle, and guitar.

 

Previously, the camp was held at Vermilionville in Lafayette, and it will move to Eunice later this month.
