The struggles for food pantries worsen in summer

In Southwest Florida, 1 in 8 people live with food insecurity. Those struggles become exacerbated in the summer months with higher household expenses and children not obtaining free or reduced-cost lunches at school. Some groups are looking to raise awareness of the need for summer volunteers by getting creative with their donations. Meanwhile, as WGCU’s Emma Rodriguez learned, food pantries are changing their formats to help meet the increased demand for service while maintaining the dignity that comes with the need.
