Food trucks are always an excellent stop for a quick bite. However, some restaurants on wheels simply offer better food than others, which is precisely why we love scouring online reviews to reveal the true mobile gems. Luckily, you don’t have to do too much heavy lifting: Yelp just rounded up the 100 best food trucks across the country for you.
On Tuesday, the website released its annual ranking based on the online reviews of more than 58,000 food truck destinations across the United States. As Yelp explained, the list aims to quantify diners’ favorite spots nationwide to crown an ultimate winner.
“Our users love connecting with local food truck owners who offer good customer service, quality product, and innovative offerings,” Tara Lewis, Yelp’s trend expert and vice president of consumer expansion, told Food & Wine. “Fostering genuine community connections while delivering quality service and innovative menus is a powerful way to stand out and leave a lasting impression.”
To compile this list, Yelp’s research team analyzed all restaurants in the platform’s “food truck” category and then ranked them according to “several relevant factors.” You can feel good about what you’re eating at these trucks, too, as Yelp ensured all listed restaurants had a passing health score as of late March. Here are a few key findings from Yelp.
Hawaii is a food truck haven
The largest share of food trucks on this list is found in Hawaii, with 25 of the top 100 trucks hailing from the Aloha State. Tony’s Catch in Kapaʻa secured the No. 1 spot, impressing visitors with Zicatela-style fish tacos topped with a citrusy slaw and a gorgeous beachside view to match. (The outpost also recently graced Yelp’s curated Top 30 list of food truck destinations.)
The West Coast isn’t far behind
California also proved to be a popular spot to grab a bite on the go. Four of the top 10 food trucks are parked in The Golden State, including local favorites like Jojo’s Hot Chicken in San Jose (No. 4) and La Piñata Taqueria in Vallejo (No. 6). Overall, a whopping 22 of the top 100 winners are in California.
And Texas proved it’s got the goods, too
Diners also favored food trucks in Texas, which nabbed 15 of the top 100 spots. That included the second-place finisher, Jim’s Smokehouse, in Austin. The truck has been serving up brisket and slow-smoked turkey since 2019, with many Yelp reviewers recommending that customers also splurge on a side of its mac and cheese and savory bacon jam.
“On the way home, I stopped at Jim’s Smokehouse. Their brisket is amazing. Their Mac and cheese is creamy and gooey. I love everything I’ve ever gotten here. The brisket is my favorite,” one reviewer wrote. “Also recommend their bomb mac and cheese, sriracha slaw, and do I need to even suggest [the] bacon jam? Come on! All drool-worthy,” another added.
