Nonprofit helps Arizona kids attend their first Diamondbacks game

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Thanks to the Arizona Diamondbacks, hundreds of kids got to attend their first Major League Baseball game, and that’s Something Good!

It was a sea of light blue as more than 600 kids and their families from the nonprofit M.I.K.I.D. took over three sections of Chase Field for a D-backs game earlier this month.

Many of these children live with mental or behavioral challenges. Not only was this their first time at a baseball game, but their first time in a stadium and a large group setting.

M.I.K.I.D. supports kids across Arizona and coordinated buses from Bullhead City, Yuma, Nogales, Sierra Vista and beyond to bring the Arizonan families together for this unforgettable experience.

“There’s a real therapeutic value because children really need to develop skills at how they handle themselves in large community events, and really just have some good family fun,” said Jeff Kazmierczak, CEO of M.I.K.I.D.

The day helped build confidence, interaction and social engagement for the kids and also allowed for some family bonding.

The D-backs provided the families with group tickets and even gave them warm welcome on the scoreboard during the third inning.
