Dog found dead on balcony had no access to water or food, police say

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man and woman have been charged with animal cruelty after their dog was found dead on a balcony Saturday.

According to an arrest affidavit, police were called at the request of animal control. A location was not provided in the affidavit.

Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department said when they arrived to the location, they found the dog deceased and said it appeared that the dog had no access to water or food.

Temperatures on Saturday was reported to be 97° officers stated in the arrest report. The balcony was receiving direct sunlight for several hours prior to officers arriving, according to the affidavit.

MNPD also said it appeared that the dog had been attempting to chew its way out of the metal balcony.

MNPD said when officers found the dog, it appeared to have no access to food or water.

Witnesses told officers that they saw the dog being left on the balcony for several hours at a time for multiple days and nights without food or water, the arrest report states.

Lakendra Moore, 23, and Dearick Pinkston, 24, are both charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
