EMMET COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — The Manna Food Project has reported a 24% increase in the amount of food it has distributed this year compared to last year.
The organization, which serves Emmet, Charlevoix, and Antrim counties, highlighted the growing issue of food insecurity in the region.
Staff from the Manna Food Project noted that approximately 14.5% of the 84,000 people in these counties are experiencing food insecurity.
“People just are struggling to make ends meet with housing and daycare and food. All of it adds up, and people are just really struggling to meet those basic needs right now,” said Carrie Klingelsmith, Executive Director of the Manna Food Project.
