LA PLATA, Md. — Summer in La Plata is packed with free, family-friendly events designed to bring the community together without breaking the bank. From Friday night concerts to morning kids’ shows and splash pad fun, the Town of La Plata is offering a full calendar of community favorites for everyone.
Kids’ Summer Shows on the Lawn
The 2025 Kids’ Summer Shows are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. on the West Lawn of Town Hall. Shows are geared toward preschool- and elementary-aged children and feature music, dancing, fitness, magic, puppetry and more. Each show lasts about 45–60 minutes and is completely free and open to the public.
Families are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs to the event. The nearby splash pad is also open when shows end, weather permitting, offering an easy and fun way for kids to cool off after the performances. Concessions are returning this year and will be available at most events. Guests are also welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks.

Note: No shows are scheduled the week of July 4. Instead, join the town for its annual Independence Day Celebration on Friday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring free water rides, cold treats and more.
Concessions Return
Concessions will be available for most shows, and outside snacks and drinks are welcome. Groups such as camps and daycares are asked to email [email protected] with dates they plan to attend.
Friday Night Summer Concert Series
When the sun starts to set, the fun continues with the Friday Night Summer Concert Series, also held on the Town Hall lawn. These free outdoor concerts start at 7 p.m., featuring a rotating lineup of local and regional bands playing a variety of musical genres.
Concertgoers can bring lawn chairs, picnic blankets and coolers to settle in for an evening of live music under the stars. For families, the town’s splash pad adds extra fun for little ones looking to cool off.
