High Plains Food Bank receives $15,000 grant for rural food access

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The High Plains Food Bank in Amarillo received $15,000 grant to support access to nutritious food in rural counties.

The food bank was awarded the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) Blue Impact grant.

A news release states the grant supports the Rural Food Delivery Project, which helps overcome geographic barriers to food access in the Panhandle.

BCBSTX President Jim Springfield says throughout their 95 years of serving Texas, they remain committed to the belief that change is built through action and community-driven solutions.

“We’re honored to support organizations like the High Plains Food Bank in their efforts to decrease hunger and increase access to nutritional food. We know by empowering their expertise and passion to strengthen nutrition in the Amarillo community, we’re helping inspire healthier futures,” said Springfield.

The High Plains Food Bank is one of several recipients of the over $170,000 in community grants from BCBSTX.
