DU QUOIN, Ill. (KFVS) – The Du Quoin State Fairgrounds is set to host a free kids’ fishing day on Tuesday, July 8.
The event kicks off at 9 a.m. in front of the Expo Hall on the fairgrounds.
Fishing poles, bait and basic instruction will be provided by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Participants are advised to bring sunscreen, bug spray, water and a chair.
“Fishing is a great sport that exposes kids to nature while teaching them the importance of patience and persistence,” said Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture Jerry Costello II in a released statement. “Events like this free fishing day encourage our neighbors to visit the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds and take advantage of activities and opportunities throughout the year, not just during the fair.”
No fishing license is required for those under the age of 16.
According to organizers, advanced registration is required and participation will be limited to the first 25 kids to sign up. To register or for more information, call 618-542-1511, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
