BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – On Tuesday, young kids got the chance to play baseball alongside the Biloxi Shuckers at a Nike Baseball camp at Keesler Federal Park.
At the camp, young athletes learned the fundamentals of the game, including fielding, pitching, and hitting, from Shuckers players and coaches.
Biloxi Shuckers Community Development Manager David Blackwell said the goal is to help kids grow their love of the sport.

“When I was a kid, I just wanted to play baseball. My parents kept pushing and pushing me, and I’m glad they did because it really helped,” said Blackwell. “Hopefully, kids can walk out of here with that passion for the game.”

Campers also got a clubhouse tour, giving them a taste of what it would feel like to become a professional baseball player.
“It is a really good opportunity for them to just dive a little bit more into their baseball side of life as a kid and have fun while they are doing it,” said Blackwell.

The three-day camp was for kids aged 7 to 14 years old.
Campers will also be able to attend Wednesday night’s game against the Knoxville Smokies. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
The Biloxi Shuckers organization said being active in the community means a lot to everyone involved.
“Any chance we get to do anything like this, we are going to jump on it.”
The Biloxi Shuckers and the Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA hosted a Pitch, Hit & Run event over the weekend, and the Shuckers are working to plan more events in the future.
The Biloxi Shuckers are the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.
