Jenna Bush Hager is all about reading year-round … and she’s making sure her kids do the same.

As school is officially out for the summer, the Today show host is concerned her children Mila, Poppy and Hal Hager (whom she shares with husband Henry Hager) won’t want to read the way they usually do the rest of the year. Well, she’s come up with a unique plan to ensure they keep up their reading when not in school — and she dropped the details for her Read With Jenna followers on Instagram on June 16.

“Summer Slide is a real thing, and that happens when your kids are not in school for months at a time,” she stated in a video clip. “First of all — no iPads during the week. Pretend you want to watch television for 30 minutes. Pretend you want to watch a movie. They need to read for the amount of time for whatever show they’re going to watch.”

But that’s not the only way Jenna is getting her kids to read this summer. She also is giving them incentives for each book they finish — and we’re absolutely here for it.

“I’m [also] doing a special challenge,” she added. “For every book they finish, I take a picture of them and I’m going to put it up on a little bulletin board in their room so they’re reminded of their accomplishments. And they get special treats and such for every book they finish. It can be something as simple as ‘I’m going to take you and me to go get a lemonade.’ Just give them that one on one time.”

When fans learned how Jenna is trying to keep her children reading this summer, they shared how much they loved her ideas in the comments.

“SUCH good ideas. 🙏🙏🙏,” one person exclaimed. “Yay for you! I wish all parents would do this 🙂 (speaking as a teacher),” another penned. “I think as an adult I want to do that too,” a different follower added.

Maybe it’s time we try this as well!
