Football, Fútbol, Food: Conference realignment could bring Louisiana Tech to the Sun Belt

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – In this edition of FFF: The Sun Belt could have three schools from Louisiana, Italian soccer on the rocks, and a visit to the one and only, Commander’s Palace.

FOOTBALL

The conference realignment wheel is about to spin again. This time it could involve the PAC-12, Sun Belt, and Conference USA.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported this weekend that Texas State could join the PAC-12 as their eighth football playing member. If the Bobcats bounce on the Sun Belt, that leaves an opening in the West Division.

The West Division of the Sun Belt would be down to six schools: Arkansas State, South Alabama, Troy, Southern Mississippi, Louisiana, and ULM.

Thamel reported Louisiana Tech is the favorite to be that seventh team in the West. It would make sense, ULM and Louisiana Tech are separated by 36 miles. Tech is also less than three hours from Louisiana.

This would be a step up for the Bulldogs, getting out of Conference USA. The Sun Belt is a strong football conference. Plus, it could heat up rivalries between Louisiana Tech, ULM, and Louisiana.

FÚTBOL

In less than a year, the World Cup will start right here in North America. They’ll have matches in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Forty-eight of the great soccer super powers will be on full display, but one of the most well-known countries might not qualify.

Italy has won the World Cup four times, the last coming in 2006 when they beat France. But their last appearance in the biggest sporting event on Earth was 2014.

They’ve missed out on qualifying for the last two in 2018 and 2022. Now they’re in danger of missing out for a third time in a row.

In their opening round game of qualifying for World Cup 2026, they got smoked by Norway, 3-0. That led to manager Luciano Spalletti getting fired.

In their next match, they struggled to beat lowly Moldova, 2-0. They sit third place in their group, where only two have a shot of the World Cup.

Yes, I can’t wait for the World Cup to be on the FOX family of networks next summer, I’ll be watching a ton of matches.

Now, we’ll see if Italy players are watching with me, or will they actually be on the field as participants in the World Cup.

FOOD

In the lexicon of New Orleans restaurants, Commander’s Palace is in a class of it’s own.

Every time you step into the Garden District restaurant it feels like a celebration of life and food.

Brunch on Easter, Mother’s Day, or Father’s Day is amped up to another level. Not one, but two bands playing any song you want while dining on turtle soup, cochon de lait eggs benedict, and bread pudding soufflé.

If you haven’t eaten at Commander’s Palace, well, you HAVE TO. It’s a New Orleans experience that you can’t miss out on.
