Volunteer Alexandria has set a goal of collecting 40,000 pounds of canned food in July.
The organization’s third Food4ALX collection drive will donate the canned items to Hunger Free Alexandria’s food pantries and ALIVE!.
“Hunger does not take a summer break, and we thank everyone who has already signed up to support this month-long food drive,” Volunteer Alexandria Executive Director Marion Brunken said. “And we need more help to reach our goal of collecting 40,000 to help families.”
The drive is sponsored by Skanska, Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc., United Bank, and Fitness Together.
Volunteer Alexandria stated on its website that drop-off locations would be announced soon, including churches, libraries, grocery stores, and real estate offices.
“Hunger Free Alexandria is grateful that the food pantries in the city will benefit from the Food4ALX food drive,” said food coordinator Bryan Perry. “Our food providers depend upon the generosity of the Alexandria community to help those who are hungry.”
