Check out House of Trisha, a designer wear store specialising in customised fits

In 2014, after she lost her husband suddenly, Sima Agarwala was searching for more than just solace — she was searching for herself and some inspiration. What began as a humble sari business run from her living room gradually evolved into House of Trisha, a fashion brand named after her daughter and driven by a deeply personal mission — to create her own identity. “I’ve had exhibitions before, where a lot of my relatives came and helped with business, but then I had an urge to create something of my own where everyone could wear what I made,” Sima told t2, when asked about the beginning of House of Trisha.

Sima, once unfamiliar with fabrics and cuts, trained under a friend for months to master the technical side of fashion, learning everything from working with tailors and karigars to understanding fabric flow, measurements and customer fittings. With unwavering support from her brother-in-law in manufacturing and production, she built her skills organically, learning the trade through grit and observation. “Work teaches you how to work,” she reflects, her years of experience working for herself and creating a brand has provided her an extremely deep insight on her client base.

Ethnic Indian wear with modern twists caught our eye at the store

Initially focused on saris, Sima noticed a shift in market trends and began designing Indian sets and suits. Today, House of Trisha is known for its customised, tailor-fit garments, particularly catering to plus-size customers — filling a gap in India’s designer wear space. “Tailor-fit is our mastery,” says Sima, who remains personally involved in fittings to ensure satisfaction.

Her latest collection, Fusion Frenzy, marks a new creative chapter. It’s a muted, elegant blend of Indo-Western silhouettes, made in mul, chanderi, cotton, and linen, featuring sunrise tones — pale yellows, peachy pinks, rusty oranges, and soft greys — embellished with intricate monochrome embroidery.

The colours are muted as well as fresh

Fusion Frenzy promises a seamless look, from daytime breezy sets to evening cocktail dresses. It is a versatile and a refreshing launch, much needed during the summer season.

When asked about her future goals and plans about House of Trisha and herself, she expressed that she wants to collaborate with multi-designer stores in the city apart from her flagship store and workshop in Kankurgachi, Phoolbagan. She is also keen on working on a wedding collection, ethnic wear for celebrations, and is looking forward to expanding the creative horizons of House of Trisha.
