Espinoza believes his background in finance and being from Abilene makes him a great fit

ABILENE, Texas — Newly-elected councilman, Miguel Espinoza, believes his deep roots in the community are essential during his tenure.

“I think it’s super important as a city councilman to be connected to the community and have as many touch points as you can have,” said City Council Place Five elect Miguel Espinoza. “Whether that is work, non-profit, or any volunteer work, you can be in so it just keeps you engaged and just really allows you to engage in the community, and you’re listening to them talking to them, and it gives that opportunity to have that dialogue with you.”

Espinoza has a background in accounting and got his degree from Abilene Christian University.

He has many goals during his term on the City Council and has a plan to materialize them.

“Yeah, a lot of it is just being budget-oriented, you know, all of these decisions have a financial impact,” said Espinoza. “So just being able to analyze the budget and just looking for and where are we going to get the most bank for our buck. So when we are talking about streets and improvements and how are these things going to facilitate commerce and make Abilene a very business-friendly environment, because when you have the groundwork laid out for those and that’s where my mindset is and what I want to do for the city.”

Having a deep background in finance and understanding what the city needs is vital for improvement.

Espinoza believes his skills in these areas make him a great fit for the role.

“I’m a CPA, so I see things very logically, very calculated, you know, strong work ethic,” said Espinoza. “So I’m used to working a lot, reading a lot. Those things are typically expected of a city councilman, I kind of do on a day-to-day basis, so I’m very excited to put forth my skillset on the council because I think translates pretty smoothly.”

Espinoza will be sworn in on July 16, at which time he will begin his term on the Abilene City Council.
