Rapper’s home reportedly robbed with his three kids inside, nanny fled (report)

Macklemore’s home in Seattle was allegedly robbed over the weekend. The “Thrift Shop” artist and his wife were not home, but their three kids — who were left in the care of a nanny — were asleep in their rooms during the break-in.

In a police report obtained by People from the Seattle Police Department, the home invasion occurred on Saturday, June 7. The family’s nanny called 911 just before 1 a.m. to report that two men had broken in, used bear spray on her, and robbed the family’s residence.

“She escaped, but three children were still inside the house,” the report said. “[The caller] also added that the house belonged to a high-profile individual…. and that she believed the crime may have been politically motivated for some reason.”

The Seattle Times matched the address listed in the police report to that of the voting record of Ben Haggerty, which is Macklemore’s real name. The report did name Macklemore, but according to People, it did mention the name “Davis”, which is the last name of Macklemore’s wife, Tricha Davis.

Furthermore, the report noted that the responding officer found the nanny in “obvious fear” at a nearby residence. She told police that after putting the kids to sleep, she saw two men entering the home through an unlocked patio door.

She claimed they sprayed her with bear mace and yelled: “Where are the jewels, b—-?” She then brought them to the primary bedroom where they “went through drawers, cabinets and raided the closet full of clothing, jewelry and shoes.”

In a separate release from the Seattle Police Department, it noted that the caretaker was sprayed with mace, she was held down to the floor by one suspect as the other “ransacked the residence stealing thousands of dollars of items.” She eventually got free and ran to a neighbor’s home to call the police. The robbers were only said to have been in the home for “several minutes.”

There is no indication that any of the rapper’s three kids were harmed during this invasion. Macklemore has not publicly commented on the break-in.

Regarding his nanny’s claim that the crime may have been politically motivated, Macklemore has been a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights amidst the ongoing conflict.
