Harvesters held its monthly food distribution Tuesday

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – More than 300 cars lined up for the monthly Harvesters food distribution at Stormont Vail Events Center on Tuesday to pick up food.

More than 30,000 pounds of food were donated to several families in need, sponsored by Topeka Turnaround Incorporated, with help from the Topeka Bible Church.

Some people reportedly arrived as early as 4 a.m. to receive food assistance.

And this month, youth volunteers turned out in full force to help.

“Kids are out there serving with joy…giving up their time. And I know a lot of them also have given up their money in order to bless people,” said Jeremy McGrath, Youth Pastor at Topeka Bible Church.

“It gets them an opportunity to serve the community, and honestly, see how cool it is. Like I was talking to some of the boys over there, and they were like, “We’re coming back next time,” said Spencer Kovach, College Age Ministry Director at Topeka Bible Church.

“People who eat food like we are giving it away so that they can have food,” said Heloise.

“So we can help people tell them we love them without saying it,” said Cassi.

The next Harvesters’ food distribution will take place on Tuesday, July 8th, outside the Stormont Vail Event Center.
