Something we always praise in Connecticut is our food scene. Anytime I talk about restaurants or different foods, I say we are very lucky to have what we do here in this state. I feel like restaurants that don’t usually branch to the east coast take a chance on Connecticut because they know what our food scene is like and all that we have to offer.
With that being said, I came across a list that I was kind of surprised about. The website Far and Wide put out a list of the states with the best food and Connecticut sat lower than expected. We are nationally known for our pizza obviously and for the creation of the steamed cheeseburger, but I feel like we have a lot more to offer than just that.

That’s why, as I was scrolling this list, I was kind of shocked. Connecticut sits at number 16 on the ranking list. In retrospect, that’s not bad at all out of 50. But still, I expected it to be higher.
The article highlighted our white clam pizza and steamed cheeseburgers but also highlighted two other food items – a cider-cinnamon doughnut and our grinders. I didn’t know we were really known for our apple cider doughnuts or grinders. Now don’t get me wrong, they’re delicious, but it was stated we had the best grinder sandwiches in New England.
I obviously had to scroll to see who took the number 1 spot. It was California. Their different cultures around the state play a huge role into the variety they have to offer. Our neighbors in New York took the number 2 spot. I agree with the article – they are way more than just bagels and pizza. They also have a gigantic food scene due to the diversity of the state.
