SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – As park of the City of Savannah’s 100 Days of Summer program, Mayor Van Johnson is trying to get local kids involved with the summer’s game.
In partnership with Major League Baseball, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the Savannah Bananas, Johnson is launching the Mayor’s Play Ball Initiative to introduce children between the ages of 5-12 to baseball.
The event on Tuesday, June 16 at Grayson Stadium will include fundamental skills training and sandlot-style games. The kids will be on the field playing ball and learning from Bananas players as well as the mayor.
Mayor’s Play Ball is a national initiative to grow the game of baseball and provide a recreational outlet for young people. This year is Savannah’s first time offering the program.
