(Seguin) — Shopping at Seguin’s local Dollar General is paying off in more ways than one. That’s because many of those dollars spent are being kicked back into our local library.
Assistant Library Director Hannah Farmer says the Seguin Public Library is celebrating a $3,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
“Anywhere there is a Dollar General, the libraries and other institutions can apply for their community grants, and they have specific ones for summer reading programs, so we applied and we were lucky enough to win $3,000,” said Farmer.
Farmer says being able to “supercharge” the library’s reading program –which is currently well underway — has not only been incredible but it has allowed them to do even more.
“We plan to use the majority of funds to buy really high interest prize books for kids and teens. I know we’ve talked about the Thursday programs that we have but kids can also win free books just for completing their activity boards and we want them to be excited about reading so we want to be able to have the funds to be able to choose the super high interest books things like Dog Man and the Babysitter’s Club. So, the majority of the funds will be used for the books and also to pay for the storytellers and puppeteers that we are bringing. Getting these grants allowed us to have even more exciting programs for children,” said Farmer.
As reported earlier by Seguin Daily News, the “Color Your World” Summer Reading Experience, invites children, teens and adults to several programs, activities and reading opportunities.
A library card is not required to participate. All age groups have until August 7th to complete their activity boards for a chance at winning several raffle prizes.
