Where kids can eat free in the Coachella Valley this summer, from schools to libraries

School may be out for the summer, but free meals are still on the menu for desert kids and teens. Children 18 and under across the Coachella Valley can continue to enjoy free breakfast, lunch and snacks at dozens of locations — from schools and libraries to community centers — regardless of school enrollment.

Families may also be eligible for extra grocery help through CalFresh, or receive up to $120 in summer grocery benefits through California’s SUN Bucks program.

Here’s a list of locations, dates and times where students and families can pick up nutritious meals:

Coachella Valley Unified School District

Beginning Thursday, June 12, Coachella Valley Unified School District will serve free breakfast and lunch to all children 18 and younger at designated summer school campuses. Community children are welcome, but must check in at the front office if not enrolled at the school.

Grab-and-go meals will also be available at select mobile home park communities, where children — or their parents or guardians — can pick up both lunch and the next day’s breakfast at the same time.

FIND Food Bank to distribute free snack packs to kids this summer

FIND Food Bank will operate at numerous sites across the Coachella Valley this summer to provide healthy snacks and groceries to children through its 17-week Kids Summer Market program, which runs from June 1 to Sept. 30 to help fill the gap left by the loss of school meals.
