AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – This week’s New in Amarillo highlights three new food places providing new options for Amarillo residents.
Yolo’s
The owner of the Yolo’s food truck and new restaurant took us behind the scenes of some of their menu items, which is now offering a larger selection.
Yolo’s began as a brunch truck in 2018 and has now expanded to a sit-down, family-friendly restaurant.
Yolo’s is known for its coffee options and comfort food, such as the PB&J stuffed French toast and breakfast pile on.
Owner Yolanda Glazier says she wanted to have a fun, family-oriented restaurant that served locally sourced, fresh food.
“So, we try to make everything from scratch. We get local bread sourced in from a local bakery every day. We just try to keep everything local,” said Glazier. “Our passion is just to have community come together in a restaurant where they can dine, and it is affordable for everybody to eat.”
Yolo’s is located at 3221 S. Western and is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed Mondays.
Pony Express Burritos
One of Canyon’s beloved restaurants, Pony Express Burritos, is opening its third location in Amarillo.
Pony Express Burritos is cafeteria style that is owned by the Trejo family since 2013.
The restaurant has dozens of different toppings to choose from and is now offering nachos and quesadillas.
Owner Noe Trejo says his passion behind running the restaurant is to take care of the community with good food but also take care of his family and employees.
Pony Express Burritos will be located in the Coronado Shopping Center near 34th and Georgia.
It is expected to open its doors later this month.
Wild Wally’s Beef Jerky
A new local beef jerky is officially on the market with the Wild Wally’s Beef Jerky trailer.
Wild Wally’s is locally made beef jerky that comes in a variety of different flavors from Teriyaki to the spicy Smokin’ Ace that is made with habanero and serrano peppers.
The jerky is made in a large dehydrator before being transported to the trailer and ready to be sold.
Owner Mendi West says she has been making beef jerky since she was a teen, with the encouragement from friends and family to take the steps to sell her jerky.
“So, I would say I have been making beef jerky since I was 18 years old. Mainly for family and friends. So, it’s always something that I just love to do,” said West.
So far, Wild Wally’s Beef Jerky has been found at the Route 66 racetrack and is working to be parked at other locations across town.
