QUINCY (WGEM) – Even though school is out, it’s important to keep your kids learning this summer, according to one Quincy educator.
Literacy Coach at Quincy’s Rooney Elementary Heather Humphrey, there are a variety of activities you can do to benefit your kids’ education. From reading to your kids, holding family game nights, giving them time to play outside, and playing pretend.
“The best thing they can do is like, learning is fun, so keep it joyful. If you have really young kids that are like early childhood to kindergarten, go to the Dollar Tree, buy stickers. They can put stickers on paper. They can create sticker stories,” Humphrey added, letting kids help with cooking and gardening can also be good for their education.
She said those experiences aren’t just educational, but give you the chance to make some special memories.
“I think the joy you’ll get from being able to just have fun with your kids, too. And know that you don’t have to be stressed or give them a workbook or worksheet to have to do. That you’re just having time together,” Humphrey said.
Even if you’re on vacation, she said you can still find opportunities to keep your kids learning.
