The start of practices for fall sports at Uvalde High School are less than two months away.
UHS tennis players will be the first athletes to begin fall practice.
Practice for team tennis is scheduled to start on July 28 at the Terri Rambie Tennis Center.
The practice times have yet to be set for the first week of tennis. The times will be released at a later date.
Coach Pritchard’s Uvaldeans will begin their season with a dual team match against the San Antonio Davenport Wolves on Aug. 5, the day before the first day of school on Aug. 6.
The Uvalde-Davenport match is scheduled for a 9 a.m. starting time.
July 28 also will be the first day for Uvalde High School cross country practice.
Prospective UHS runners will meet with head coach Libby Gonzales at 7 a.m. near the benches located outside of the Kinchlow Gym and Cruz Gym entry way.
At present, Coach Gonzales is in the process of confirming their complete schedule, but the first meet for the Coyotes and the Lobos in recent years has been at Kerrville.
See future editions of the Uvalde Leader-News for more information about the 2025 UHS cross country schedule.
The Uvalde Lobos will begin preparations for the volleyball season on Aug. 1 in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchow Gym.
Morning practice is set for 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
The afternoon practice is tentatively set for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
On Aug. 8, the Lobos will travel to Eagle Pass to scrimmage the C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks.
They will scrimmage against the Del Rio Queens on Aug. 9 at Del Rio.
Coach Debbie Martinez’s Lobos will play their first volleyball match of the season on the road against the Lytle Pirates on Aug. 13.
They will participate in tournament action at Hondo on Aug. 14 and 16, and Floresville on Aug. 21-23, before making their season home debut against the San Antonio Kennedy Rockets on Aug. 26 in Kinchlow Gym.
Between now and the start of practice, Martinez believes players should play a lot of volleyball this season. The UHS gym is open for volleyball from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Coach Martinez said players should take advantage of the strength and conditioning program that runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at UHS.
The Uvalde Coyotes will hit the field for their first football practice of the season on Aug. 4 at the UHS soccer complex.
Practice is tentatively set to start at 6 p.m., but the starting time may be changed depending on the heat index.
“If it is extremely hot, we will move the starting time to later in the evening,” said Miller.
The Coyotes will see their first action of the season when they host a three-team scrimmage on Aug. 16 in the Honey Bowl.
Joining the Coyotes for the scrimmage will be the Jourdanton Indians and the San Antonio McCollum Cowboys.
The Coyotes will be on the road to scrimmage the Pearsall Mavericks on Aug. 21.
Their season opener is scheduled for Aug. 29 on the road against the Carrizo Springs Wildcats.
They will face a rare Thursday night game on Sept. 4 when they play the C.C. Winn Mavericks at Eagle Pass on Sept. 4.
The Coyotes then will make their season home debut on Sept. 12 when they face the Hondo Owls in the Honey Bowl.
Prospective football players should take part in the Uvalde strength and conditioning program.
Some UHS athletes are participating in 7-on-7 football held on Tuesday nights at Hondo, from now until July 1.
